The Blues in 12 Keys is an excellent source of learning to sight read music. It is suggested that the bassist practice the bass lines in Part 2 of the book as if they were on a gig. Set the metronome at a given tempo and read the lines without stopping for mistakes as if you're doing a big band gig etc.

Set aside practice time to work on the lines and work out the fingerings and alternate fingerings etc to enable smoother execution of the lines .

Then reset the metronome a click higher .
