When I pressed them as to why they were doing this, they just said that since neither of them had family in the area, they thought they'd get to know their neighbors a bit better. Other than me, the only neighbor in the immediate vicinity was an old, grizzled trucker who spent ninety percent of his time living out of cab. That left me.

When I arrived that evening and stepped into their cozy apartment, I was nearly bowled over by the intoxicating aroma of freshly-baked bread and pasta. My stomach growled in anticipation.

We made small talk while Latisha finished preparing dinner. She was wearing a stunning red dress that hugged every curve of her body.

Her husband Marc and I discussed the state of affairs of the nation, our top picks in the NFL playoffs and a plethora of other subjects. By the time dinner had arrived, we were each on our second beer.

No sooner than the food was put on the table, then we both dug in. Throughout dinner, I watched the two of them interact. Latisha was a very attractive, young black woman. She had shoulder length black hair, brown eyes and a very pretty smile. "It's Latisha and I," he admitted, his large, muscular shoulders sagging under the weight of his marital problems.

I nodded in understanding. "What seems to be the problem?" I felt like the odd man out. Here I was, a nice upstanding white man and this black couple wanted me to help them with their relationship. What could I possibly offer that they couldn't get from somewhere else? I guess I would find out a few minutes.
