Irene had been a sensible and responsible housewife, bringing up two daughters who recently left home for college. The couple went to dance lessons, trying to reconnect using a common interest. Oscar had no sense of rhythm, even when the teacher took him under her wing.

Irene had a natural ability and a serious dancer in the group wanted her to be his partner. He would train her to be a perfect partner, so as to win competitions. She was flattered to be chosen by the handsome young man. Nearing forty left her feeling old, whereas with Mathew she felt young and alive again. After an exhilarating dance session their relationship became too close, taking a step too far.

Confessing to her husband took a lot of strength but she trusted him to forgive her, eventually. He understood her need for something exciting in her life before it was too late, though, she was surprised he didn't shout and demand she stop the stupid dancing.

She didn't realise he was unaccountably aroused when she confessed her sexual adventures with the boy. He didn't understand it either. Was he afraid of losing her? Did he love her so much he wanted her to enjoy a one last wild fling with another man? Was it because she was the strong sensible one in the family, so for once she should enjoy life?

Whatever it was that prevented him from putting a stop to the illicit relationship, it became too late to do anything. His wife was in thrall of the boy and had submitted to him, letting the boy train her in dance techniques as well as teach her sexual skills. The young man had released her hang-ups, shoved aside her morals and trained her to pleasure him.

What was Oscar going to do now? Dancing with the class teacher wasn't going to make him as good as his wife's dance master. The woman was holding onto him, not wanting to lose another client and it was a small consolation to him, so he continued, hoping Irene would return to him and the class.

She hadn't moved out ot the apartment, though she did stay overnight with the dance master occasionally. Oscar was lonely and afraid of losing her. He just hoped she would see sense, get the affair out of her system, or the boy would meet someone his own age. Either way he was there for her.
