Joe Bookbinder had met the loyal, wiry Thai known as Song Song Li in Sydney many years ago. He got him a job on the construction site where he worked and then a place to stay. It was without a doubt a peculiar friendship and yet it worked. Their bond was that of brothers. Together they would share dreams of being detectives, solving crimes and living the life in Bangkok. When the boss of their construction company was found dead one day, their detective pipe dream edged that little bit closer to reality.

Joe joined Song Song Li and his brother, Kob Sook, who became his sister, in Bangkok. The three of them formed a private detective agency, where they'd take on missing persons cases, cheating spouses, fraud just general idiots. Life and work was good for many years, however, when their silent partner, a private investor, passed away around the same time as Joe's girlfriend tragically being killed in a car accident, Joe decided it was time to part ways from Song Song Li and go it alone. Kob Sook, too, wanted to distance herself from her brother, taking Joe's side and calling it quits on their detective agency. Song Song Li laughed it off. He was a fast becoming out of control and it was in everyone's best interest if they all just went their own separate ways. Joe recalled a drunken memory when the threesome were toasting one another's future. Ultimate fantasy? Walking into a room and being dumb-founded. Girl right there, you know? And me, not having the slightest idea what's going on, Joe told Song Song - and it would be precisely the way woukd meet Georgia.
