""Indians! Circle up! Circle up!" Pete yelled, racing from wagon to wagon. "Get those wagons in a circle!" Panicked drivers broke column and took their wagons in every direction. Dogs barked wildly, and cries of women and children filled the air. It was complete chaos. Guy and Morgan were yelling and trying to guide the wagons into a defensive circle. The Indians charged into our midst, yelling and flailing blankets to stampede the loose stock. The animals in harness bucked, trying to get loose. Arrows flew through the air, and the sound of firing weapons rang loudly.
"Got him," Becky hollered.
Twelve-year-old Gerald Perkins, the brother of Darrell, who had died, ran out from between the wagons, picked up the dropped rifle, and fired.
