The idea forthis short storycame from the conversation about female accomplishments in Chapter 8 of Pride and Prejudice. I thought it would be interesting to introduce a truly accomplished woman into the company and see what happened. The woman I chose was Emily St. Aubert from The Mysteries of Udolpho by Anne Radcliffe. Of course Udolpho begins in the year 1584, but we must imagine our Emily to be a descendant of the original Emily with all of the same qualities.
