The character, Jim Cocks, is a hard-working and honest, Detective Constable, who only joined the Police to provide security for his family.
Set in the early nineteen eighties, the Police were respected for being tough on criminals and there was no mercy for anyone caught doing wrong.
A senior officer invites Jim to become a Freemason and when he accepts, mysteriously, he is promoted to Sergeant and fast tracked to the Home Office, Regional Crime Squad.
From recycling recovered drugs which should have been destroyed and turning a blind eye to major drug suppliers, all the Crime Squad were accepting a share of this illicit bounty and reluctantly, Jim accepted his so called bung.
He was also shocked to discover that two of his wealthy Masonic brethren, were active targets of the Crime Squad, for being involved in international drug smuggling.
Having taken the Kings Shilling there was no turning back and Jim is drawn deeper and deeper into the organized criminal activities of his colleagues and the Masonic brethren.
His fast track to Hell gets him involved in drugs, the sex trade, money laundering and murder, which he struggles to keep secret from his loving wife.
As he constantly battles with his conscience, his lust for power and wealth, make him one of the richest men in the country, but can love prevail over Evil?
The story gives a fascinating insight into the life of a detective in the nineteen eighties, together with intriguing Masonic ritual.
The strong violence and dark side of the story is tempered by humour and moments of tenderness.
