Isidoro Rainieri was lost to his descendants. One day in 1912, the Italian entrepreneur and hotelier embarked from Puerto Plata to never be seen again. He left his wife, Bianca, and small children, separated in two continents. Where did he go? What prevented him to return? His young widow had to make it in a new land. In time, she was called Doña Blanca, raised her family but on the way became a legend of stoicism and strength, running a hotel business, sacrificing herself, during times of dictatorship. The autobiographical novel describes the quest of the author to find the lost ancestor and brings him into the family again. To do that she must convey the need to find him but loyalties in the family run deep and prevent her from discovering the mystery. How to prevail? She must unite a family of difficult strong women to combine versions of the story. Only united, the family would find the truth. With great humor and deep insight, the author weaves an emotional tale of love, family loss, and what it means to belong.
