Throughout her life, author Constance Fenimore Woolson traveled widely, and her impressions of the far-flung locales through which she journeyed often made their way into her fiction. The short stories and vignettes collected in Dorothy are heavily influenced by Woolson's experiences in Europe, both as a traveler and later as an expatriate.
