Dorothy Dale's Engagement is the 12th in the series: Dorothy and Tavia are finished with school, and if Dorothy wasn't rich, they'd be looking for a job. As it is, they are instead starting to focus on young men as potential husbands. One, "G.K." in particular, has captured Dorothy's attention to the exclusion of others. But, he doesn't feel he has the money to maintain Dorothy in a style to which she has become accustomed. Of course, in between pining for love, the girls experience action, adventure, and danger.
Margaret Penrose was a Stratemeyer Syndicate pen name used for the Dorothy Dale, The Radio Girls (later reprinted as The Campfire Girls) and The Motor Girls series. Lilian C. Garis, whose husband Howard wrote many novels for Stratemeyer over 30 years, including The Motor Boys series, wrote volumes 1-8 and 11. W. Bert Foster wrote 9, 10 and 12. After a long gap, Elizabeth Duffield Ward wrote the final volume, number 13.
