The insults might fly fast and furious at school, but for the most part fifteen-year-old Tristan is holding his own as a person of size. His wry humor helps, as does his long friendship with rock-star-popular Marco who depends on Tristan to get his homework done for him.
But things start to change when Tristan's sort-of stepsister, Kelly, moves in. She's beautiful, extroverted, and confident. Tristan wants her approval. He wants her to be happy with the new family arrangement. He wants to be seen with her.
What he doesn't want is to be Kelly's new fitness project. What he doesn't want is for Marco and Kelly to treat him like a cringe-inducing little brother. What he doesn't want is what happens.
