After a traumatic event in his childhood, Jeremy Dunham spends eleven years in Sycamore Acres psychiatric institution with no memory of that fateful night. He remains in the hospital even though he is now free to leave, because during his time there he has developed an extraordinary gift he can enter the dreams of others.
