Duplicity Book 5: an Unwitting Alliance

Agreeing to a last-minute request from his friend and movie producer of many years, Gerald Allensby, Hunter Blake finds himself flying back to Los Angeles from his ranch in northern Idaho. The request was to take a package to an arranged meeting in Arizona.

Upon arriving at the Burbank airport, Hunter is met by Janet Feldman, Gerry¿s personal assistant. The package turns out to be a locked aluminum attaché. Janet offers to accompany him, and he agrees, although it had been his understanding that Gerry would be going along.

On route, Janet opens an envelope with instructions consisting of a single slip of paper with coordinates scribbled on it, but no other instructions or names of individuals they¿d be meeting. That alone, raises flags, but rather than turn back and abort the assignment, Hunter¿s and Janet¿s curiosity is piqued and they agree to complete the trip ¿ hoping to discover what this urgent delivery was all about.

The last thing they expected to encounter was a fully weaponized black helicopter that arrived a short time later. A silent exchange is made between Hunter and crewman from the helicopter, and all seems to be going well until the attaché is suddenly dropped and pops open. Hundreds of pieces of paper, resembling money, are scattered from the powerful down wash of the chopper¿s rotating blades.

Hunter runs for his plane just as another crew member takes a shot at him and he goes down. Another shot rings out and the first crew member also goes down. Moments later the helicopter lifts off and streaks away.

Hunter escapes injury, when he suddenly trips and goes down at the same moment the shot was fired. He scrambles back onto his jet, but is closely followed by the other bloody crew member, whose name, he¿ll soon learn is Brian ¿ a former Air Force fighter pilot.

Now the race is on. Will they be able to escape another potential encounter and possible airborne attack, or will they manage to stay a step ahead and find safety somewhere and help from someone? Convinced they are still being pursued, their efforts to avoid being discovered take them from Arizona to several northwest states, and into Canada, before eventually returning to Idaho. But the big question is, what was the purpose of that suspicious exchange and why was Hunter the one Gerry asked to make the delivery?

The trouble doesn¿t stop there as murder, an abduction, and more intrigue mounts but who can they trust to ask for help? Janet secretly calls in reinforcements, but most surprising is the dramatic arrival of someone from Hunter¿s past who will play a big part in their ultimate rescue.
