End of the Earth

Mystery: The reporters were as confused as everyone else, but it was now beyond question that a full-scale, world-wide evacuation was taking place. The President of the United States, along with most of his government, had disappeared. The Prime Minister of England and his senior cabinet were gone. Virtually all of Europe's government was missing. It was not just politicians. The very rich, the very powerful, the much-loved. Many of the best-known entertainers were gone. Anyone who mattered.

Monsters: It had tiny black eyes, no distinguishable ears, a flat grey nose and a massive mouth out of which extended four enormous fangs. It was like a mash-up of a sabre-tooth tiger, a velociraptor and a rhinoceros, with only the most deadly elements of each finding its way into the final creation. It was both utterly alien yet weirdly familiar. And in the time she had been staring, it had killed at least thirty people.

Fighting back: Vincent smiled back at Jeff. " I'm going to shoot the shit out of it." With a whoosh, the rocket ejected from the launcher and travelled the far-too-short distance to where the creature was bounding straight at them at full speed.

Love: Gen and Jeff had made love without a word being spoken. It had not been the sudden, ferocious passionate sex that sometimes happened in moviesand, she presumed, real life, although not to her. But it wasn't the tender romantic type either, like the love they had shared in the early days of their relationship.

Loyalty: Vincent shook his head. "You heard my reasons. You don't need to thank me." She smiled. It was a quiet, tired smile. "I think that I do." Vincent opened his mouth as if to speak, hesitated, let out a deep breath and finally said, "You're welcome, Gen."

And then it's the End of the Earth.
