Ilo a young African Monarch is poised to effect changes in the traditions of Oza Kingdom and this meets strong opposition from the custodians of traditional customs. Eventually after all said and done one begins to wonder if the changes were in the interest of the Monarch, and if change could ever be complete.
The Novel takes us through colonial era Monarchy in an African Kingdom from the view point of the King. In this view we see his struggles, the necessity for suppressed emotions and the longing for a normal life which for him is an unaffordable luxury which necessitates this call for change.
