There are many federal environmental requirements that apply to ethanol production facilities. State environmental agencies may take the lead in implementing federal environmental programs and may have state requirements in addition to federal environmental requirements. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and state environmental agencies work in partnership and are available to answer questions about applicability of environmental requirements to individual ethanol production facilities.
