Just a couple hours into another fitful sleep, Eve started to perspire again; her body twitched with the tormenting sound of the daunting voice, reaching for her from deep in her subconscious. "Why," it asked, "why," as Eve's nightmare took on a new dimension for the first time.
From out of the cold fog that bound her very spirit, a pair of eyes accompanied the voice. With eyelids closed they seemed to emerge from the same blackness that spawned the haunting question. Larger they loomed as they slowly floated to the foreground before the lids raised and a pair of eyes stared into her soul from above.
The disturbing image shocked Eve awake but the eyes didn't disappear, not right away. She watched in horror as a single tear formed in the corner of their lingering stare before drifting into a darkened area of the room where they finally vanished.
