According to the rumours and secret gossip at Rochford, Miss Bellwood is a fallen woman, a despicable young lady who has lost her reputation forever due to an ill-chosen liaison and she is now more or less forced to leave London to lessen the scandal. But when Fanny Cole meets her for the first time, Miss Bellwood is absolutely nothing like she has expected.

Fanny is a timid under maid who has left Ireland to escape the famine that is spreading throughout the country and she ismuch to her own initial surprisechosen to become Miss Bellwood's lady's maid.

However, as time passes by the mystery behind Miss Bellwood's story unravels and so does Fanny's feelings for her new mistress...

"For months I had longed for her, even though I had not completely understood it myself, or perhaps was unwilling to admit it, and now when she was in my arms, kissing me and caressing my breasts through the black linen maid's dress, it felt like my skin was on fire everywhere she touched me.
