Nicke was barely a child when she was included in the war terms of the Laertan king: to be sent to that city and be the prisoner that shackled her father's thoughts of revenge. The brutal hand that followed her as she grew and strived for a better life was inescapable, even as her talent in war came to light.

Zephyros was a man owned wholly and utterly by fate. Raised in a backwater and bought and sold as a war chest designed to force Laerta's hand, he is quickly sponsored and turned from man hunted to man reborn.

When Laerta asserts herself, the city that was unbeatable on land, Nicke and Zephyros find themselves thrown about by the forces around them. And when Lysander, Nicke's lover and Zephyros' brother, is caught in the sights of the Laertan king, will there be enough bravery between them to save him? Or will the city again swallow their hope whole?
