Maisha has now borne a child twice, once for the kelpie and once for the dryad who took advantage of her. But she feels something wrong with the local magics so goes to the only person she thinks can explain things to her--the faun god who granted her druidic powers in the first place. But he doesn't speak to the mortals for free...not that she'd say no to what he's packing.
What he has to say is chilling--the magic is fading, despite her efforts to bear more fey for the benefit of the forest. He is not sure what is causing it but he DOES know what she can do to at least hamper the loss.
As he pleasures both her and himself, he explains that she must keep doing it--fey, fey beasts, elves, and men of magic in general, if she is to save the magic.
