The servants of the Hotel de Sanglié in Paris see the Duchess Mlle Germaine, sick and whose father is ruined, go sell her ring at the pawnshop. Madame de Chermidy makes him marry Don Diego for the money. They go to Italy where Germaine is recovering a health. They adopt Gomez, son of Madame de Chermidy. Germaine is poisoned, and Madame de Chermidy wants to marry Don Diego, but Germaine escapes them, and Madame de Chermidy is killed by Germaine's servant. They are all returning to France.
