This book contains a series taught in our mid-week Bible Studies at Living Word Bible Church. Originally the series only contained 30 studies, but over the years several other individual sermons were preached on a similar subject. These have been dispersed throughout the text, therefore you will find some repetition where these occur, but I feel that they will only add to the understanding of the matters raised.

Without Genesis the Bible would have no beginning, and therefore would be incomplete. It is the story of God's dealings with the Earth and all it contains, man, beast, and yes, even Satan and his host. The story is one of falling from purity into sin, the promise of the Redeemer, who would shed his blood for man's salvation, and ultimately deal with Satan. It is said that the two books Satan hates the most are Genesis and Revelation.

It is these books that few want to believe in their literal sense, not because of personal sin, but due to the fact that "the god of this world [Satan] hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them" (2 Corinthians 4:4). It is my view, one which is clearly taught in Scripture, that Genesis should be taken literally unless the text itself indicates any symbolism. This thought also holds true for every other part of the Holy Bible. If this principle is not adhered to, then fanciful and unscriptural notions will be taught and preached. "Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation" (2 Peter 1:20). Interpretations of men, be they theologians, commentators, church fathers or preachers, are of no consequence if they make any text symbolic where for no other cause than private interpretation. Those who adopt symbolism and spiritualisation are exhibiting their unbelief in the plain teaching of Scripture.

As we delve into The Genesis Creation, I pray that the study will be a blessing to you. It may answer questions and reservations you might already have, and it might raise other issues you have not previously considered. Nothing in the Bible is hard to understand, but it might, because of preconceived idea, be hard to believe. Let the text speak for itself; this is the way God intended it to be read and understood.
