For the Balinese, the unseen world is as real as the tangible, physical one our perceptions tell us we inhabit. The realms of spirits, ancestors, and Hindu deities all participate in human life. Communication between spheres takes place through ritual, religious festivals, and, on occasion, the intervention of shamans and mediums. In these fictional tales, characters old or young, wise or naive, face grave predicaments, from which they can see no way out. Doubt, despair and superstition creep in for some, ignorance or misconceptions cloud their vision. All seek assistance in any way they can. But in the end, help always comes form unexpected quarters, in unforeseen and even unimaginable ways. Harmony is restored and understanding dawns. Truth shows the way, and life is seen once again through fresh eyes. These tales are a tribute to Bali, and an ode to the Balinese, their culture and the beauty of their spiritual traditions.
