Horatio Walpole, 4th Earl of Orford , also known as Horace Walpole, was an English art historian, man of letters, antiquarian and Whig politician. He is now largely remembered for Strawberry Hill, the home he built in Twickenham, south-west London where he revived the Gothic style some decades before his Victorian successors, and for his Gothic novel, The Castle of Otranto. Along with the book, his literary reputation rests on his Letters, which are of significant social and political interest.
"Hieroglyphic tales" is a collection of short tales written by Horatio Walpole. Bizarre and surrealistic, this works are among the such writing is English literature and up to day remain among the strangest fiction there is. Methods used to write this works are completely unconventional by the standards of Walpole's time. But ever for modern readers his tales are a breath of fresh air, a truly unique and outstanding work.
