Luke stops to help a family change a tire on the side of the road and it changes not only his life but Lily, the teenage daughter of the family as well. Through adversity their young love flourishes until Luke goes to Vietnam and is put in a prisoner of war camp. Luke is presumed dead by the United States government, and that information is communicated back to Luke's loved ones. Lily is devastated about the news of Luke's death and feels trapped and all alone in the world. To escape her predicament she agrees to marry another. When Luke is liberated from the camp will he find his way back to a now married Lily or will the love they had be lost forever?
