Hope in the Time of Despair

This is my heart-felt story of too many emotionally jarring trials to conceive a normal embryo via in-vitro fertilization, at my "seasoned" age of 42-43. The pain and despair were starting to brim inside me and, at the encouragement of a highly spiritual friend, I considered letting the gates open and describing how I felt, the ordeal we had been through and what I wish I knew before starting the process.

It felt cathartic every time I sat down to write and bared a bit more of what I had gone through during the IVF journey.

Having pored over numerous blogs addressing a particular issue at a time, that women during IVF cycles were anxious to find out more about, I thought that I should send out my pearls of wisdom and experience, in a coherent way, about the myriad aspects and burning questions that couples worry about while they are going through the harrowing process of in-vitro fertilization.

The issues and observations from my painful IVF experience were so many, and their impact on a woman's life so vast, that I thought I should put them down in a book.

The book describes chronologically the emotional rollercoasters, all the tests and special measures we took as a couple before and during each of my eight consecutive in-vitro cycles (and nine altogether, considering an earlier cycle I had done when I was forty). I include, for ease of reference, concise medical descriptions of the relevant procedures we were concerned with during the IVF journey both on the male and the female side, and on an embryo level.

I hope this book will be useful to the women and couples who have done, are doing or might be doing in-vitro; and to the women who are tempted to delay procreation for so long that they might expose themselves to the precarious process of IVF.

My message to you is: You are not alone! Do not succumb to despair! Keep hoping, keep trying, and keep going until you have figured it out!
