It is no picnic at all to be 11 years old, especially for Filippo. As he takes his first steps into adolescence, recognizing who is really his friend and trusting the adults around him becomes increasingly difficult. The only thing Filippo can truly count on is the affection of his best friend, a horse named Notturno. Theirs is a once in a lifetime friendship-but the bullies around them want to tear it apart.
Filippo is 11 years old and attends fifth grade. He is poor, wears hand-me-down clothes, but he has something few people have: a true friend, his horse Notturno.
Their friendship is rock solid, but everything changes one day when Filippo defends one of his classmates from his abusive and manipulative teacher. Instead of helping him, his classmates turn on him. The bullies take advantage of this and begin to harass him, targeting his friendship with Notturno.
Isolated and pressured to conform, Filippo finds himself at a crossroads and must decide whether to bow down and be accepted or believe in himself and his friendship with Notturno.
