Welcome to my book about how to get to self-realisation and self-acceptance throughout the chapters of your WorkLife Story. Here is a preview of what's inside, along with the main ideas and the meaning behind these.

WorkLife is our life at work, where we spend one third of our lives. It is also the impact our work has on our life outside of work, and the impact our life outside of work has on our work. All areas of our life in and out of work are so intrinsically linked, they cannot be separated, nor do I believe should they. I believe WorkLife needs to be considered holistically.

"Self-Realisation (also referred to as self-actualisation) is the complete realisation of one's potential in peak experiences which involve the full development of one's abilities and appreciation for life." (Abraham Maslow)

"Self-Acceptance is the awareness of one's strengths and weaknesses, the realistic (yet subjective) appraisal of one's talents, capabilities, and general worth, and, feelings of satisfaction with one's self despite deficiencies and regardless of past behaviours and choices." (Wikipedia)

In this book I tell four stories:

  1. Not Being Good Enough Suffering from Imposter Syndrome: Myra's story of how, despite the fact that she had sold her company that had started as a market stall for eight figures, when she was invited to join the boards of organisations across different sectors she felt like an imposter.

  2. How He Got to a Place of Self-Realisation, by Exploration, which had Brought Him to Self-Acceptance: Kane's story of how he went from believing he was honouring his commitment, to playing his part in conserving the environment, to believing he had played his part in destroying it, and how he got back to his original belief.

  3. A Journey to Living Through and From Her Art: Sofia's story of how taking one small success at a time led her to living her dream.

  4. How Two Questions Led to Self-Realisation and Self-Acceptance: Andrew's story of how two very simple yet effective questions guided him along his path to living the WorkLife he aspired to.

I share the exercises that helped to work through these challenging situations to resolve the dilemmas. I present these exercises as the following assignments for you to work through:
