Jean Jacques Rousseau was a great philosopher and one of the founders of the modern system of philosophy. He is in the row with the greatest thinkers as Aristotle, Isaac Newton, John Locke, Immanuel Kant, David Hume, Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz, and John Stuart Mill. Their collected thoughts has had strong influence on building the foundation of the United States and its endeavor of open society.

In 1762, Rousseau completed Social Contract his best and most important of all his writings. Rousseau theorized the best social model in the book to establish a political community in the face of the problems of commercial society.

During the French Revolution, The Social Contract was served as the inspiration for a new national system through political revolutions. In the book, Rousseau argued that only the people had all powerful right.

Utopia is a narrative depicting a fictional island society and its religious, social and political customs by Thomas More. He published Utopia in 1516. It was a work of fiction and political philosophy that had influenced Rousseau strongly on writing his Social Contract. Many conceptual elements in Rousseau's Social Contract can be found in Utopia.

New Atlantis is the utopian novel by Francis Bacon. He published the book in 1627. It is a work of Bacon's vision with the future of human discovery and knowledge. It is his expression of aspirations and ideals for humankind, the creation of a utopian land where generosity and enlightenment, dignity, and public spirit are essential qualities of the inhabitants of the mythical Bensalem. The book strongly influenced the formulation of many conceptual elements in Rousseau's Social Contract.

The City of the Sun is a philosophical work by Tommaso Campanella. He published the book in 1602. It was an important early utopian work that had influenced Rousseau's writing of Social Contract.  

Rousseau's work has produced great influence on modern philosophy and logic. His view became widely recognised as the foremost philosophical voice and his influence has been felt in nearly every field of the humanities and social sciences.
