Wonder Years!

Welcome to a magical journey back in time, to an idyllic childhood, set in one of earth's paradoxically most ancient and simultaneously most modern of places: Idyllore.

Dear time traveller! If you are one who likes good clean enjoyment, some surprise, a dash of excitement, a bit of bewilderment, stunning vistas, new perspectives, then may we suggest that you embark on this journey into the lanes and bylanes, times and bytimes of Idyllore? You will be treated to those in these stories of growing up, long ago, in a magical rural town of India!

But, Idyllore?! What is it? "Idyll-ore"? Or perhaps, "Idyll-lore"? "Idy-llore" possibly? Where exactly are we going in this journey? Let us see...

The 'lore' of a particular country or culture is its traditional stories and history, according to the Collins English Dictionary. How appropriate for the theme of this book!

But, perspective is everything, and there can be many alternative perspectives of anything. Which is a good thing!

You, and everyone you know, would have heard of the software outsourcing capital of the world, Bangalore, in India. Guess what the "-ore" at the end of Bangalore stands for? "Town" is the answer. An English version of the local word "ooru". The British had difficulty rolling their tongues. So we have Bangal-ore, Cuddal-ore, Tanj-ore, Chitt-oor, Mys-ore, and a myriad other "-ores" towns and cities of various hues, in southern India. How ideal that we now have "Idyll-ore" as well!

"Idyll", according to that irreferenceable Wikipedia, "is a short poem, descriptive of rustic life". Well, this book is no poem, but rustic life, yes, it does describe! Wikipedia continues: "[Theocritus]'s idylls are limited to a small intimate world, and describe scenes from everyday life". Ah! hear! hear! what an apt description of this book! "Later imitators include", the Wikipedia entry goes on, "the English poet Alfred, Lord Tennyson (Idylls of the King)." High praise indeed for idylls, to be associated with the Lord Tennyson!

The icing on the cake: "Goethe called his poem Hermann and Dorothea - which Schiller considered the very climax in Goethe's production - an idyll." The icing for this book's title is different though: the best ice-cream in the town of Idyllore is Ideal Ice Cream, a real ice cream that you can buy and relish!!! Thus when the Universe conspires it does conspire so universally, bringing everything together...!

You now have your choices: "Idyll-ore", "Idyll-lore", "Idy-llore" (naah, not really), or maybe "Ideal-lore"! Pick one or more and proceed.. Yes, one or more. The author picks two: this book contains idyllic lore about an idyllic town, so it is Idyll-lore of Idyll-ore! Too complex? Always simplify things, so let us drop the hyphens and conflate the two into one single, all-encompassing Idyllore. There you go!

Whether your are interested in idylls or in lore, or even just in -ores ... hop on, sit back, relax, and enjoy the journey into Idyllore.
