This book is an effort to define who the Igbos are, seen through the prism of present-day Nigeria and it is also based on my personal experience. The historical background, culture, and religion of Igbos and as victims of the slave trade, are briefly described. The role of Igbos in Nigeria before, during and after independence are discussed. The disastrous effects of coups, pogroms, a civil war and its aftermath on the pollical, social and economic situations in Nigeria and in relation to Igbos are highlighted. The future of Igbos and their contributions to Nigeria, envisaged as a great nation are outlined provided free, fair, peaceful, and honest elections are possible for democratic governance devoid of religious and ethnic chauvinism.
