From the beginning of December, 1856, to the autumn of 1862 I was resident with my family in the city of Munich, Bavaria, and witnessed some exciting occurrences there, an account of which may be of interest to the readers of Professor Beyschlag's article on "The Old Catholic Movement," pp. 481526 of this number of the AMERICAN JOURNAL OF THEOLOGY. It may have been little known beyond the city of Munich how Dr. Döllinger came to deliver the discourses which began his breach with the papacy.
