Dr. R.C. Sobti (Padma Shri Awardee), M.Sc (Hons Sch), Ph.D., D.Sc., F.N.A., F.N.A.Sc Vice-Chancellor, Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University (A Central University), Lucknow, India And Former Vice-Chancellor, Panjab University, India Is A Celebrated Scientist With About 250 Papers And Review Articles And 22 Books To His Credit. He Has Been Honoured With A Large Number Of Awards And Recognitions Including Padmashri By The Government Of India. Dr. Sobti Has Excelled In The Area Of Cancer Biology And Has A Large Number Of Citations With High H Factor. Prof. Sobti Used Innovative Ideas In Enthusing Faculty, Research Students In R&D And Academic Excellence And Initiated A Large Number Of New Interdisciplinary Courses And Made Campus Academically Vibrant. Under His Leadership, University Took Many New Initiatives For An All Inclusive Growth Of The Society Namely Creation Of Seats For Single Girl Child And Cancer, AIDS And Thallesemia Patients, Provision Of Free Education To BPL, Blind, Orphan And Handicapped Students; Made The Campus Green By Planting Thousands Of Saplings And Creating New Parks As Also Making The Campus Smoke And Polythene Free; And He Is Replicating His Experiences At BBA University, Lucknow With Much More Vigour. Taking Into Account His Contribution To NCC And Societal Commitment The Government Of India Has Given Him Honorary Rank Of Colonel. Mr. Ganga Singh Rautela Is A Science Museum/Centre Professional And Has Been Working In Various Science Education Institutions And Science Museums/Centres Under The National Council Of Science Museums In India For The Last 37 Years. After Obtaining Masters Degree In Physics, He Did His Research Work In Science Education At The National Council Of Educational Research And Training And Thereafter Chose To Become A Science Communicator. He Joined The National Council Of Science Museums (NCSM), The Network Of 48 Science Museums And Science Centres In India In 1979 And Worked In Various Science Museums And Centres Across The Country In Various Capacities Including Head Of 5 Major Science Centres. Now He Is The Director General Of NCSM. During His Career Spanning Over 37 Years In Science Education And Communication, He Has Contributed To The Development Of Number Of Public Science Museums/Centres And Other Museums In The Country, Creation Of Hands-On And Minds-On Science Exhibits, Exhibitions And Activities And Non-Formal Science Education Programmes For Students, Teachers And General Public. His Area Of Research Has Been 'Learning Of Science In Nonformal Setting'. He Is Associated With Number Of Organisations Engaged In Enhancing Public Engagement In Science. He Is Also Engaged In Science Education / Literacy Programmes And Proliferation Of Non-Formal Science Education Initiative Of Govt. Of India. He Has Significantly Contributed For Improving The Quality Of Science Education In Schools And Colleges And Communicating Science Through Hands On And Minds On Approach. He Is Also Associated With International Science & Engineering Fair, A Programme To Promote Innovation Of Young Students, Since Its Launch In India In 1998. Shri Rautela, Also Is Very Active In The Museum Field At National And International Level. He Served As Chairman Of The International Committee On Museum Education And Cultural Action(CECA) Of The International Council Of Museums(ICOM) And Presently The Secretary Of ICOM-India Trust. He Is Also The Member Of The International Programming Committee Of The Science Centre World Congress. He Is A Member Of Many State Science And Technology Councils, Fellow Of Science Academies, Member Of Board Of Governors Of Educational Institutions, Science Communication Organizations And Science Museum/Centre Boards.
