Mario arrived in Vietnam feeling excited and motivated, ready to fight and do his part for his country. He had said goodbye to his dad, who was against his decision to join the army. As Mario made his way to his base, the sights of war left him stunned. Everything was grey, dusty, and barren. Everywhere he looked he saw soldiers engaged in brutal battles and charred ruins from recent bombing. Everywhere he turned, he saw the devastating effects of war - lost lives, injured soldiers, destroyed villages.
Mario felt helpless. He wanted to turn back, to leave this horrific scene, but he couldn't. He was here to fight, to help make a difference, even if the cause seemed hopeless. Steeling his resolve, Mario bravely carried on. He refused to give up in the face of such devastating circumstances, and instead he did his part in helping to bring peace to the land.
