Lessons From a Free Spirit

Lessons From a Free Spirit is about an unnamed person who is an outcast, even in their own family. The unnamed person also does not have their gender mentioned. They are arrogant, and a troublemaker who doesn't care about anyone. They are adopted and have a friend named Melanie that they fall in love with. At first they are ignorant of their feelings for her. Melanie's father is abusive to her and the main character is the person she goes to for comfort. Melanie also has a few significant others; even though she loves the main character because she is afraid of her feeling being unrequited. The main character is also dominating and possessive of her, which she does not like because it resembles her father. Melanie later has cancer and the main character is with her throughout, especially since her father refuses to pay for treatment. The main character has a relationship with her until she then later dies in their arms. They remember her and become a better person from her example in their life with their adoptive parents, God, and others.
