Lines from Mother's Pen is a beautiful collection of the poetry of Charlotte Matilda Savery Dinnick (18381912), a Primitive Methodist preacher from Liskeard, Cornwall, England, who moved to Toronto, Ontario, Canada, in the last decade of the 19th century. Poetry was a part of Charlotte's life from her childhood until her passing. Her poetry is familiar and has a gentle metre. She frequently writes about the hope of seeing loved ones again. She looks to God as the source of her hope and strength. She expresses a deep sense of love for her husband; and, upon the marriage of her sister, expresses how there is no perfect marriage. She punctuates a few of the most emotional poems with prose explanations either beforehand or afterwards. In Charlotte's writing, there is an indomitable sense of strength and hope, even in the face of intense grief or prolonged sickness. These poems are of historical interest, but will encourage and inspire any reader, especially those who are of like Christian faith.
