Living in the small town of Willowvale, Meredith Ridgemont had two things to look forward to: the return of her beloved husband, Stephen, from his deployment in Afghanistan, and the birth of their first baby. That was until she opened her front door early one morning to receive the devastating news her husband had been killed in combat.

Moving back to her home town of Seahaven, Meredith settles into life, working and raising her daughter, Annabelle. Attending her old home church one Sunday, she is challenged to participate in providing care packages to soldiers serving overseas.

What begins as a way to teach her young daughter compassion, soon morphs into a friendship between herself and the soldier who received their package, Sean Southern. Spanning the course of a year, Meredith and Sean exchange letters, sharing their thoughts, their dreams, and encouraging one another through scripture and prayer.

When Sean announces he will be returning home, and invites Meredith to meet him, her heart is torn. Did she hope to forge something more from the letters they'd exchanged? Had she entertained, albeit briefly, the possibility of something in their future? She'd done the military family life before, would she be willing to risk her heart again?
