This is a flash fiction tale about the genesis of evil. The tragedy that occurred in Newtown scarred my heart and mind probably for a long while. Such a heinous act, such barbaric and horrific events leave an indelible mark on society. All the grotesque details of such shocking cases such as this one can be divulged with the public, but no one can really, truly comprehend the motives. They may be able to dissect and show a pattern of behavior exhibited by the perpetrator, but our "normal" minds are just not equipped to wrap around and grasp the end results associated with these heinous crimes. This flash fiction story is my way of trying to rationalize and explain to myself the irrational acts committed by some of the worst offenders. Incomprehensible acts of terror and evil, though seemingly random at first, are anything but. Evil, pure, unquenchable evil, is often cultivated and nurtured until it is ready to burst forth into society like some demented jack-in-the-box. Unfortunately, and commonly, the only way to guarantee its demise, is to wait for it to self-extinguish.
