An Indian Navy veteran, former Services & Hyderabad Ranji Cricketer and North Zone Duleep Trophy player, he played a pivotal role as the South Zone Coach in several National Camps in the years leading up to India's first World Cup victory in 1983.

With a career spanning over six decades, M.R. Baig has trained an astounding number of over 28 International Cricketers, 35 National Cricketers, and hundreds of cricket players at state, district and school levels.
