"Masquerades Among Us" tells the story of the decadence in the Nigerian Police Force (NPF). Daniel Okebukola has recently been appointed as the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) and he's determined to bring the necessary reforms and rebrand the NPF. The peace of the Federal Capital City was shattered one morning, following the death of four business moguls. The public accused the police of their murder. Daniel would have looked the other way but not when the Attorney-General of the Federation called his office and the ministry of justice sets up a public judicial panel of inquiry to probe the death of the business moguls.
Daniel had to set up an internal police inquest to investigate the events that led to the death of the business moguls. Daniel recruited the service of the federal criminal investigation bureau (FCIB) finest: Inspector Nongo Bongo. Nongo's investigation started unraveling evidence that unsettled the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) at the center of the murder accusation: Kaine Okosisi. When Nongo thought he was about done with the case, a trail of murders started, which convinced him there's more to the case. This is where a power-hungry Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG): Elayo Ibrahim, comes into the picture. Elayo was too willing to play the devil's advocate in order to achieve his ambition. His quest will leave a trail of murders, blackmail and arson.
Nongo's quest to connect the dotted lines in his investigations took him on a dangerous path that almost led to his death in the hands of some assassins. His escape from assassination and the subsequent unmasking of the relationship between Kaine and Elayo led him to the chief mastermind: Chief Chijioke Agumba, a Federal Senator.
This is a crime fiction/thriller that chronicles a festival of crime that comprises murder, arson, theft and power usurpation, all liberally garnished in wicked blackmail.
