The Apostles asked Jesus why the teachers of the law said the Elijah the Tishbite had to return from heaven before the Messiah appeared in the Promised Land. It seems the teachers of the law believed Elijah the Tishbite would introduce the people to the Messiah. Jesus did not agree with them. Please see Matthew 11:7-15 and Mark 9:1-13.
