Pabi is used to acting on her own. She's a hard worker who gets things done, and she doesn't need anybody else getting underfoot. Given hard knocks, she takes them and gets back up. That's what it means to work for a verifiable hero who rides dragons and fights anything.
When Pabi's boss sticks her with two other girls her own age, she finds her freedom trampled. One is a "miss perfect" dragon rider who seems to succeed at everything, and the other is a girl who invents magical contraptions.
