Ben's afterlife was supposed to be over almost a year ago. On a lonely highway, amidst shimmering ribbons of water, under a warming sky, the day Ben dreaded finally dawned. He faced the angel, knowing its service was done. He braced himself and waited for the fate that Esa's captivity held at bay for way too long.

He'd tried to run. Nathan found him. He should have known. Nathan could always find him. He had to face the inevitable. He had to face the end. He did his best to face it bravely.

The end never came.
