Meena and the Street Urchins

The mystical world of Turmali is in crisis. Invading aliens from outer space have stolen the Tourmaline gemstones that give power and light to this far-off world. Now few gems remain and the world is dying. The aliens have also destroyed the rainbow bridges that connect the seven lands of Turmali so the people are cut off and isolated, living in fear of their alien invaders the dreaded "Light Killers". Meena Shukla is one of the twelve GoMadKids and she has her own series of ten books for readers to enjoy. In this particular story, the first in the Meena Shukla series, we discover that Meena is deeply concerned about the homeless children of New Delhi. She starts to volunteer at a centre for street children and meets a young boy called Jahan and his sister Suki. Both of Meena's parents are doctors, so when Suki becomes dangerously ill, Meena persuades her mother to visit Suki to try to help her. Meanwhile, Jahan turns out to be much more than he seems, and when he presents Meena with a shining Tourmaline gemstone, the adventure begins!
