Memories from Australia Book 9. The last book of the Australia series is based on the subsequent tours of Tasmania. This book is as far south as you can go in the country: off the bottom of the island, in fact. This volume covers a driving tour to explore some regions of the island in greater detail than had been done before. It starts on Bruny Island to the west of the capital of the State of Tasmania: Hobart. This small island has some prestige a a holiday place, but we wanted to see it far south. A place of beaches and hills. Where we stayed for a couple of days was interesting because of the resident marsupial who hopped around the garden. Not tame, but not afraid. Next there was a drive across the south west of the island to a place of wilderness: Tahune Forest Reserve. The home of giant eucalyptus trees, rivers, mountains and, one of the idlest living things on the planet: Huon Pine trees. Seeing we were quite a way south and west on the island, we took the opportunity to go as far south and west as a decent road would take us, so we need up in Southport. A very sleepy, almost unoccupied seaside holiday town. It was off-season and so it was very empty: only one place to get food and petrol. From there it was a drive almost back to Hobart before heading north and then west to the famed (or infamous) Lake Pedder. Located at the end of the decent road to the west, not far from the coast lies this huge hydro-electric scheme which flooded the unique lake, but is now a series of lakes and lovely scenery. The touring end of our trip required a drive to the far west coast, not far from lake Pedder, but, not unusually for Tasmania, a drive back to the main centrally located north-south highway. From there it was to Queenstown on the notorious Macquarie Harbour. Three reasons for this drive: a chance to see the dangerous mouth of the harbour, a boat trip up the Gordon River, and a narrow gauge trip trip. There is a 100 MB limit on eBooks and so the number of images in the book is limited. Hopefully readers will get a 'taste' of this amazingly varied countryside occupying the centre of the largest island on earth and the 7th largest continent. Have a read and enjoy the 93 still images and two short video clips each with an accompanying explanatory page of text. The regions covered are rather remote to the rest of the world, even to some mainlanders, but are worthy of a look as they are uncommonly peaceful and attractive. ! Have a read and hopefully enjoy some of the outstanding wildlife, scenery and vegetation of the island to the south of this fascinating country.
