Memories from Southern Africa Book 7: This picture book is the last of the series travelling in Southern Africa, of 7, which cover some touring - mostly guided - mostly of South Africa, a trip to Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe and a safari excursion in Botswana. The content of the book is what we saw in the latter place: Botswana and the Chobe River. The tour was in two parts: a boat cruise on the Chobe River around some of the easily accessible areas (a lot is a floodplain and there are many boggy areas) and subsequently a short safari drive. Fortunately for a boat cruise the weather was brilliant. A lot of the wildlife in terms of variety in the Chobe River are happens to be bird. There are quite a few mammal types and two reptile types were seen (Crocodiles and Water Monitor), but a lot was swimming, standing, flying birds. A Red Leche is a type of antelope, and was the first we had seen. Lots of Hippopotamus and some large Nile Crocodiles lazing around, very close to the boat. Buffalo were common, as they like water. We got good views of Fish Eagles: better than at Motswari. The herds of Impala were bigger and less relaxed than at Motswari. We saw the bizzare African Skimmer birds with their long lower beak. A herd of elephants came down tot he river for a drink, very cautiously, not like the charge at Gorah. Also better seen than at the other safari tours were Waterbuck. A Sable Antelope was a new beast to see; very impressive horns. Along with a Lilac-breasted Roller there were giraffe, a Tessebe antelope, Greater Kudu, Baboon and Zebra. All -in-all a cornucopia of wildlife seen in less than a day! This book contains 103 still images and each has a minimal accompanying descriptive text. The file size limit of the eBook format is the reason for 5 books. The original photographs (taken but author, and amateur, with amateur equipment) are very large and so need compressing to fit in the file limit.
