In the past, there was no other way to map the world except for exploration. The Europeans have been at the forefront in the Age of Discovery as they journeyed to new horizons. The Spanish and Portuguese monarchs sent numerous ships to uncharted waters to expand territories, gain wealth and resources, and spread their beliefs. The explorers found themselves having a hard time traveling from Europe to Asia as the only known route at the time was through the vast African continent. Thus, they sought to find other ways to make the journey more efficient. Around this time, people already knew that the Earth was round, so the colonizers traveled westward to find another sea route. Despite their best efforts, none were successful in finding Asia. Instead, they saw a massive continent with millions of natives already inhabiting the lands. Soon after, the colonization of the Americas begins.

Upon setting foot in America, Christopher Columbus saw different species of animals and plants, various unique landforms, and native Americans who were living in their own societies. Because of his loyalty and allegiance to the Spanish Kingdom, Columbus added the already inhabited lands to the Empire's collection of territories. Since then, the Americas have been a target of European exploration and exploitation.

Four European Empires struggled for the power and control of North America: Spain, Great Britain, the Netherlands, and France. Conflicts occurred as each country fought over the lands. Soon after, most of the North American colonies were governed and administered under British rule. But the power struggle against the other European powers has not yet ended. The French and Indian War, fought by the colonists of France and Great Britain, spilling thousands of Native Americans' blood as a result. Despite winning the war, the whole conflict cost the British in terms of financial consequences as their debt grew to almost double. To compensate for the losses incurred, the British taxed their colonies. The imposition of various unfair taxes and legislation angered the 13 colonies. This resentment was not instantaneous, though it was a gradual emotion that went from a simple disappointment and ended with a historic revolution. The American Revolution finally removed the British grip over North America. And with that, a new country was born.

The following chapters contain more stories about America's birth from the Age of Discovery to the era of the 13 colonies reuniting under the American cause of freedom and independence.
