The debut collection of an exciting new writer, Lana Pesch of Toronto. We feel it's our strongest short story collection since John Vigna's Bull Head in 2012.

Lana came to our attention when Vancouver Sun journalist Denise Ryan contacted us to say that we ought to look at her work; Lana's stories have a visceral, muscular edge to them extraordinary, at times life-or-death situations populated by flawed yet sympathetic characters. They also have a wicked sense of humor at times.

In "Brotherhood," a story that moves backwards in time, a woman discovers that her partner has been involved in the botched suicide of his friend. In "Deffer's Last Dance," a man whose girlfriend has recently left him faces up to his own demons at the bedside of his dying uncle. And in "Natural Light," two women who were high school friends but embarked on different paths are reunited when one, a journalist, interviews the other, recently imprisoned for murder.
