As she rose, she glanced across the room and noticed Dominic already walking for the exit in his haste to leave the studio. He certainly was in a big hurry tonight, not bothering to tell anyone goodbye. She supposed he still felt slighted when he had mentioned earlier that he thought Mack gave her the meatiest stories.
She shook her head, dismissing Dominic from her thoughts as she stood. She started to make her way across the room, when a man stepped in front of her blocking her path. She lifted her gaze and quickly studied his dark features.
A moment of panic swept through her wondering who he was. She didn't remember seeing him earlier in the studio before starting the newscast. It swiftly crossed her mind that he might be sending her the letters and her legs felt wobbly from fright.
Suddenly, another thought drifted through her head. I'm acting foolish since this is a public building and all my co-workers are within calling distance if this man threatens me.
As she continued to study him, she came to the conclusion that he looked like someone who was health conscious and worked out frequently in a gym. He stood more than six-feet, making her five-feet-four inches puny in comparison. His muscled shoulders and arms stretched the seams of the black sweater looking as if they were ready to give with the strain placed on them. She was quick to note how his wide shoulders narrowed down to a slim waist and muscled thighs.
When Mandy glanced again at his bronzed face, she felt overcome by the deepest blue eyes she'd ever seen on a person. His jet-black hair was long, trailing over the collar of his sweater, and his nose looked as if someone had broken it at some time in his life. A small white scar ran the length of his neck reaching up to just behind his ear.
By all accounts, the man looked tough and mysterious to Mandy. The toughness was part of his attractiveness. In a way, he made her feel vulnerable and she didn't like the feeling, but there was also an excitement that she couldn't stop from filling her.
"Excuse me," she managed to say through trembling lips, shifting to the side to try to move past him.
"Ms Conners, I'm Casey O'Rourke," he pushed his hand toward her.
Never in her wildest dreams did Mandy picture Casey O'Rourke in this way. Somehow, she'd thought he would look like the average guy wearing a conservative suit and not this hunk of a man staring at her with a measuring look of his own.
She felt such an intense reaction over finding out his identity, her legs shook. This was a new experience for her, and she found she wasn't immune to the sensations racing through her at blinding speeds.
"So, you're my bodyguard Mack hired to watch over me," she blurted out impulsively, feeling so nervous that the words had popped out.
"If that's what you want to call me." He gave her a mocking grin as his gaze made a slow descent down her curvy body. "I've had people call me worse things in my life." He eventually looked at her face again.
