Joyce Kirksey came from a very poor family. She was in and out of children's and foster homes. She often left homes at an early ageas young as six-years-old. Her sister was abusive; her father went to prison for life and she became a victim of sexual and physical abuse by neighbors.
She had her first job at the age of fourteen, and she met a man named Carl. After six months of dating him, Kirksey discovered he was married. She was pregnant and sad at the loss of Carl.
About the Author
Joyce Kirksey was born and raised in Greenville, South Carolina, where she presently resides. She was employed for many years at the Greenville Hospital System in various positions, including Material Services, CNA and PCT. Kirksey received her nursing assistant certification at Donaldson Vocational Education Center. Later, she attended Greenville Technical College for her patient care technician certificate and professional blood glucose certificate. She also received a Circle of Care Achievement Award.
Kirksey is now retired and has three sons and one daughter. She loves walking (to maintain physical fitness), fishing, dancing and meeting new people.
